FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College freshman Jennifer Mann and sophomore Takato Timmerman have been selected to the 2021 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Swimming & Diving Teams.
Mann won the 1,650-yard freestyle at the 2021 MIAA Championships. She was second in the 200-yard breaststroke and third in the 500-yard freestyle. Her time in the preliminaries of the 200 breast (2:22.33), broke the school record, while the finals time in the 500 free (5:09.23), and 1,650 free (17:38.36) are second-fastest in school history. Mann also swam legs of the fourth-place 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays.
"I am proud of Jenn," said Olivet head swimming and diving coach Rob Brownell. "She has been a great addition to our team and certainly deserves to be named to the All-MIAA team. Jenn has humbly worked hard all season and in such a difficult year, she stayed focused and locked in. I think this is only the beginning of a great career for her here at Olivet. Jenn succeeds in the water and in the classroom, and that is exactly the type of swimmers we are recruiting here at Olivet."
Timmerman finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke, fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke and seventh in the 50-yard freestyle at the 2021 MIAA Championships. His prelim time in the 100 breast (56.38) shattered the school record, while his prelim time in the 50 free (21.18) was the fifth-fastest in school history. Timmerman also swam the breaststroke leg of the fourth-place 200-yard medley relay.
"I could not be happier for Takato," stated Brownell. "His dedication, work ethic and love of the sport are contagious. Takato is well deserving of being named to the All-MIAA team. I believe he will leave a great legacy here at Olivet before he is all done. Takato is a leader who shines in the classroom and in the pool, and that is what makes him such a great teammate and Comet."
