Men’s swimming team in fifth-place at MIAA Championships
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men’s swimming team is in fifth-place after the first day of the 2021 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids. The Comets have 142 points. The host Knights are in first-place with 516 points.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's swimming team is in fifth-place after the first day of the 2021 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids. The Comets have 142 points. The host Knights are in first-place with 516 points.
- Sophomore Takato Timmerman had the Comets' top finish, as he was third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a season-best time of 2:06.08.
- Sophomore Carter Moore finished 14th in the 100-yard freestyle (48.42) and 15th in the 100-yard butterfly (53.55). His prelim time (48.34) in the 100 free and finals time in the 100 butterfly were personal-bests.
- Sophomore Thomas Krug placed 16th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a career-best time of 2:22.05.
- Freshman Dylan Lyons was 16th in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:07.65. In the prelims, he swam a season-best time of 2:07.44.
- The top finishing relay was the 400-yard medley team of Lyons, Timmerman, Moore and sophomore Chris Smith who finished fourth in 3:37.35.
- Olivet had three swimmers in the consolation finals of the 500-yard freestyle. Sophomore Parker Brown placed 13th in 4:59.78, followed by senior Kolton Epplett in 14th-place (5:03.76) and sophomore Sebastian O'Leary in 15th-place (5:05.87). Brown's and O'Leary's times were career-bests, while Epplett's time was a season-best.
- Posting season-best times during the preliminaries were:
- Patrick Gault: 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.91)
- Smith: 50-yard freestyle (50.56)
- After taking tomorrow off, day two of the championships is Saturday. Prelims begin at 11 a.m., followed by finals at 5:30 p.m.
