Beckwith and Maxwell named to 2010 All-MIAA Swimming and Diving Teams
Olivet College juniors Kellen Beckwith (Farmington Hills/North Farmington) and Rafe Maxwell (Bay City/Western) have been named to the 2010 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) swimming and diving teams.
Olivet College juniors Kellen Beckwith (Farmington Hills/North Farmington) and Rafe Maxwell (Bay City/Western) have been named to the 2010 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) swimming and diving teams. They helped the Comet men finish in third-place at the 2010 MIAA Championships Feb. 11-13 at Calvin's Venema Aquatic Center.
Beckwith, who is earning All-MIAA honors for the third consecutive year, was an at-large selection. He was third in the 100 backstroke, sixth in the 200 backstroke and eighth in the 50 freestyle. During the preliminaries of the 100 backstroke, he recorded an NCAA Championships provisional qualifying time of 51.24 seconds. Beckwith also swam a leg in the second-place 400 freestyle and third-place 200 medley, 400 medley and 400 freestyle relays. Their times in the 200 medley (1:33.92) and 400 freestyle (3:06.90) were provisional cuts.
Maxwell was an automatic selection after winning the MIAA championship in the 200 butterfly. His time of 1:54.80 broke his own school record.
The 2010 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will take place March 17-20 at the University of Minnesota.
