Four Olivet College student-athletes named to 2008 All-MIAA Men’s Swimming/Diving Team
Four Olivet College student-athletes – freshman Kellen Beckwith (Farmington Hills/North Farmington), junior Shawn Bergman (Chelsea), junior Steven Davis (Davidsville, Md./DeMatha) and senior Dustin Meisner (Temperance/Erie Mason) – have been named to the 2008 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men’s Swimming/Diving Team.
Four Olivet College student-athletes – freshman Kellen Beckwith (Farmington Hills/North Farmington), junior Shawn Bergman (Chelsea), junior Steven Davis (Davidsville, Md./DeMatha) and senior Dustin Meisner (Temperance/Erie Mason) – have been named to the 2008 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men's Swimming/Diving Team. The quartet led the Comets to a second-place finish at the MIAA Championships Feb. 14-16.
Beckwith captured the league title in the 100-yard backstroke and was third in the 200-yard backstroke. In both events, he broke the school record and his preliminary time in the 100 (:50.91) was a NCAA Championships provisional cut.
Bergman, a 2007 All-MIAA selection, won the one-meter diving with 421 points. He placed second in the three-meter diving with 404.55 points. Bergman is under consideration for competition at the NCAA Championships.
Davis took first-place in the 1,650-yard freestyle in both a school-record and NCAA Championships provisional qualifying time of 16:16.22. In addition, he was second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:42.19) and fifth in the 200-yard butterfly (1:59.33).
Meisner is the sixth student-athlete in school history to earn All-MIAA honors four consecutive years. He finished in second-place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a NCAA Championships provisional qualifying time of :58.51. Meisner was also third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.18).
Selections for the 2008 NCAA Division III National Championships will be announced around March 6. The national championships will take place March 20-22 at Miami (Ohio) University's Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center
