Swimming and diving teams split with Calvin
The Olivet College men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a dual meet with Calvin College Friday night at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. The dual results were extracted from a quad meet with Denison (Ohio) and Wayne State Universities. The Olivet men defeated Calvin, 175-60, while the Olivet women dropped a 200-30 decision to Calvin.

For the men, junior Steven Davis (Davidsville, Md./DeMatha) was a double winner, taking first-place in the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle events. His times were 4:55.56 in the 500 and 10:11.72 in the 1,000. Olivet swept the diving events, as junior Shawn Bergman (Chelsea) won the three-meter (234.74 points) and junior Andrew Wasson (Grand Ledge) was first on the three-meter (242.17).
Also taking first-place were freshman Kellen Beckwith (Farmington Hills/North Farmington) in the 200-yard backstroke, 2:07.20; senior Yury Bylina (Minsk, Belarus/Minsk Sport) in the 200-yard freestyle, 1:48.10; sophomore Nathan Busscher (Hamilton/Holland Christian) in the 200-yard individual medley, 2:05.20; senior Ryan Key (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy Prep) in the 200-yard breaststroke, 2:14.65; and senior Dustin Meisner (Temperance/Erie Mason), 2:03.81.
In addition, both relays claimed victory. The 400-yard medley relay team of Beckwith, Key, freshman Rafe Maxwell (Bay City/Western) and senior Mitch Powers (Kalamazoo/Central) was first in 3:41.90. the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Busscher, Bylina, senior Jason Wheatley (Portage/Central) and junior Brad Voss (Lansing/Holt) touched the wall first in 3:21.80.
The highest finishers for the women's team were three third-places by junior Lisa Egelkraut (Battle Creek/Central) in the 1,000 yard freestyle, 11:39.22; junior Amy Johnson (Gaylord) in the 50-yard freestyle, :25.59; and senior Courtney Mich (Bay City/Western) in the one-meter diving, 185.62.
The Comets return to the pool next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16-17, when they participate in the Wabash (Ind.) College Patrick Woehkner Invitational. Action gets under way Friday night at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m.
