Swimming and diving teams fall to Carthage
The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each fell to Carthage (Wisc.) College today in non-conference duals at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. The Comet men dropped a 123-97 decision, while the women lost, 109-95.

The men's team had a pair of second-place and four third-place finishes. The runner-up finishers were junior Justin Hulsebos (Wayland) in the one-meter diving with 332.98 points and senior Ryan Key (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy Prep) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.64).
Despite a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, freshman Kellen Beckwith (Farmington Hills/North Farmington) broke the school record with a time of 53.65 seconds. The other third-place finishes were by senior Dustin Meisner (Temperance/Erie-Mason), 100-yard breastroke, 1:02.49; and junior Andrew Wasson (Grand Ledge), three-meter dive, 230.18. In addition, the 200-yard medley relay placed third, 1:39.88.
The women's team posted five first-place, six second-place and five third-place finishes. Freshman Sara Griffith (Brighton) was the lone double winner, as she took the top spot on both diving boards. She scored 225.30 points on the one-meter, and 212.63 points on the three-meter.
Senior Sarah Boyd (Napoleon, Ohio) touched the wall first in the 500-yard freestyle, 5:40.20; and second in the 1,000-yard freestyle, 11:33.44. Junior Amy Johnson (Gaylord) clocked-in first in the 200-yard freestyle, 2:00.17; and second in the 100-yard freestyle, :54.29. The 200-yard freestyle team finished in first-place, 1:43.20.
The rest of the runner-up finishes were by senior Katie Kilmartin (Wayland), 100-yard breaststroke, 1:13.07; junior Kalee Redder (Grandville/Jenison), 200-yard IM, 2:22.22; sophomore Jackie Taylor (Plainwell), 100-yard backstroke, 1:03.22; and 400-yard medley, 4:23.18.
Freshman Jami Lingbeek (Plainwell) recorded a pair of third-place finishes, 50-yard freestyle (:26.54) and 100-yard butterfly (1:02.99). Junior Heather Michalsen (Plymouth/Salem) was third in the 200-yard freestyle, 2:08.83. Redder placed third in the 100-yard backstroke, 1:07.30; while junior Lauren Siedlik (Livonia/Churchill) also finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke, 1:14.27. The final third-place finish was by junior Erin Tramper (Jenison) in the 1,000-yard freestyle, 11:46.77.
The Olivet women will return to competition Friday, Jan. 18, when they host Saint Mary's College at 6 p.m. Both the men and women will host Alma College Saturday, Jan. 19, at 1 p.m.
