Men's swimming and diving team captures team title at Chicago Invitational
For the second straight year, the Olivet College men’s swimming and diving team captured the team title at the University of Chicago Invitational, which was contested at the Myers-McLoraine Pool in Chicago. The men tallied 1,095 points, just 46 more than the host Maroons.

Today, Olivet recorded five first-place finishes. Dustin Meisner (Temperance/Erie Mason) was the only double winner as he took first in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke with times of 1:00.27 and 2:11.46, respectively. After winning the 200-yard individual medley last night, Yury Bylina (Minsk, Belarus) took top honors today in the 400-yard individual medley (4:13.45). Also taking first was Shawn Bergman (Chelsea) in the three-meter diving (379.75) and Mitch Powers (Kalamazoo/Central) in the 100-yard freestyle (:48.23).
Olivet also had seven second-place finishes, five in individual events along with the 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays. The individual runner-ups Bylina, 200-yard butterfly (1:58.87); Brian Jaffee (Bowling Green, Ohio), 1,650-yard freestyle (17:28.83); Brian Johnson (Lansing/Eastern), 200-yard backstroke (2:03.27); Ryan Key (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy Prep), 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.06); and Jason Wheatley (Portage/Central), 200-yard freestyle (1:50.02).
The 400-yard freestyle team of Juan Aguirre (Queretaro, Mexico), Bylina, Powers and Brad Voss (Lansing/Holt) clocked-in at 3:15.97. Swimming the 800-yard freestyle relay was Aguirre, Bylina, Nathan Busscher (Hamilton/Holland Christian) and Jaffee, and their time was 7:19.13.
The Comets will now resume Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action Saturday, Jan. 20, when they travel to Alma College for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
