Swimming and diving student-athletes earn national academic honor
The Olivet College women’s swimming and diving team was named to the 2006 College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Academic All-American team. In addition, four swimmers earned individiual CSCAA Academic All-American honors.
The Olivet College women's swimming and diving team was named to the 2006 College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Academic All-American team.
The women posted a cumulative team grade point average (GPA) of 3.52 for the 2006 spring semester. The GPA was the sixth highest among all NCAA Division III women's programs. The Comets earn this honor for the second straight year.
In addition, two Olivet swimmers have earned individual Academic All-American honors and three others have been recognized with honorable mention Academic All-American status. To earn an individual Academic All-American Award, a swimmer must have a GPA of 3.50 or above for the semester and compete at the NCAA championships meet. Honorable mention honors are awarded to swimmers who have a GPA of 3.50 or above for the semester and achieve a NCAA championships "B" cut.
Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell) and Dustin Meisner (Temperance/Erie Mason) earned the individual Academic All-American Award, each posting a 4.0 GPA. Ananta Fetters (Fennville/Holland), Koji Takahashi (Etobicoke, Ontario/Silverthorn) and Erin Tramper (Jenison) received honorable mention Academic All-American status.
Lingbeek competed at the national championships in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke. Meisner swam in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke at the national championships. Fetters had a 3.79 GPA, followed by Tramper (3.71) and Takahashi (3.59).
The Olivet men's and women's swimming and diving teams were led by fourth-year Head Coach Dave Stubbs.
