The Olivet College men’s swimming and diving team beat Ohio Northern University, 154.50-85.50, today in a non-conference dual meet at Hillsdale College.

The Comets captured first-place in nine-of-13 events. Sophomore Brian Jaffee (Bowling Green, Ohio) was the lone double winner. He was first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:22.63) and 500-yard freestyle (4:59.00). Olivet took first on both diving boards, freshman Garrett Draper (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) on the three-meter (214.55) and junior Andy Weiss (Fremont) on the one-meter (228.80).
The other first-place finishers were freshman Brian Johnson (Lansing/Eastern), 200-yard backstroke (2:06.30); sophomore Mitch Powers (Kalamazoo/K-Central), 50-yard freestyle (:22.23); freshman Igor Rasula (Belgrade, Serbia), 200-yard freestyle (1:48.87) and sophomore Koji Takahashi (Etobicoke, Ontario/Silver Thorn CI), 200-yard butterfly (2:02.44).
Fetters, Meisner, Powers and Takahashi swam to a first-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay (3:42.66).
In addition, the Comets took second-place in five individual events and one relay. They were sophomore Juan Aguirre (Queretaro, Mexico/Escuela Nuevo), 200-yard backstroke (2:07.29); freshman Shawn Bergman (Chelsea), one-meter dive (219.00); junior Steve Dastoli (Kalamazoo/Central), three-meter dive (214.55); junior Ananta Fetters (Fennville/Holland), 200-yard butterfly (2:04.10); sophomore Dustin Meisner (Temperance/Erie Mason), 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.92); and Powers, 100-yard freestyle (:49.28). The 400-yard freestyle team of Aguirre, Rasula, sophomore Jason Wheatley (Portage/Central) and freshman Brad Voss (Lansing/Holt) touched the wall in second-place (3:22.73).
Olivet resumes Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action next Saturday, Nov. 19, when it travels for a 1 p.m. meet against Albion College.
