Olivet drops Senior Day game to Albion, 2-1

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's soccer team was on the losing end of a 2-1 final to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Albion College on Senior Day at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets had a great chance to score in the first minute of the game. After a player was fouled inside the box, Olivet missed the ensuing penalty kick.
- The Britons used the momentum from the stop and countered with a goal in the fourth minute.
- The score stayed 1-0 at halftime, as shots were nearly even at 9-7 in favor of Albion.
- In the second half, both teams pushed for a goal.
- Albion was rewarded with a penalty kick in the 77th minute. Brayden Stavros buried the kick into the goal to make the score 2-0.
- The Comets answered with their own penalty kick a little more than two minutes later. Senior Zachary Stephen stepped to the spot and sent the ball into the goal.
- An Olivet shot was saved by the keeper in the final minute of the game.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet finished the game with a slight 15-13 edge in total shots, while the Britons had one more shot-on-goal.
- Stephan led the way with five shots, followed by freshmen Tyler Kendrick and Caiden Smith with two apiece.
- Sophomore Nicholas Van Port Fleet was in goal for 78 minutes and tallied five saves.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Prior to the game, Olivet recognized its six seniors – Zak Bedford, Tyler Gerbasi, Seth Locklear, Christian Mendoza, Carlos Santos and Zachary Stephan. The six played in their final collegiate home soccer game. Gerbasi has started 62 of 63 games at Olivet, while Stephan has seen action in 60 games, with 58 starts.
