Olivet defeats Hiram, 4-2

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's soccer team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 4-2 victory over Hiram (Ohio) College today at the Cutler Athletic Complex. The last time Olivet started its season with three straight wins was 2000.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Freshman Abraham Jimenez scored the first goal in the 14th minute when he made a penalty kick after an Olivet player was fouled inside the box.
• The teams traded own goals, the first when a Comet headed the ball into his net in the 21st minute and the second when a Terrier headed the ball into his goal in the 34th minute.
• Olivet took a 3-1 lead at halftime. Jimenez passed the ball to freshman Caiden Smith who sent a shot into the goal in the 41st minute.
• A Hiram goal in the 71st minute made the score 3-2.
• Smith gave a two-goal cushion back to the Comets with an unassisted tally in the 77th minute.

FOR THE COMETS

• Olivet had only six shots in the game, but four found the back of the net.
• Jimenez recorded three shots.
• Sophomore Nicholas Van Port Fleet earned the win in goal, collecting five saves.

UP NEXT

• Olivet heads on the road for the first time this season next Tuesday, September 10, when it plays Manchester (Ind.) University. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
