Men’s Soccer: Kouyate’s hat trick propels Olivet over Alma, 4-0

ALMA, Mich. – Freshman Djimo Kouyate recorded a hat trick to lead The University of Olivet men's soccer team to a 4-0 win over Alma College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest today at Scotland Yard.

- The Comets took a 1-0 lead behind a goal Kouyate's first goal in the 28th minute. After receiving a pass from junior Zachary Stephan, he dribbled the ball just outside the 6-yard box and slotted a shot into the netting at the far post.
- Kouyate scored his second goal in the 38th minute. Sophomore Logan Rice sent a pass from the right side of the field, where Kouyate headed the ball into the goal at the near post.
- Olivet increased its lead to 3-0 in the fifth minute of the second half. Sophomore Carter Scheel sent a high pass from behind the midfield stripe. Kouyate ran onto the ball from outside the 20-yard box, where he scored from around 12 yards out.
- The Comets ended the scoring in the 61st minute, as sophomore Kyle Buchan scored the goal and Stephan was credited with the assist.
- Olivet had a slim 11-10 advantage in total shots.
- Kouyate's three goals came on four shots.
- Stephan tallied two shots to go along with his two assists.
- Freshman Nicholas Van Port Fleet started in goal and collected three saves, while playing 72 minutes.
- Senior Carlos Santos played the final 18 minutes in goal.
- Kouyate's hat trick is the 12th in school history.
- The four-goal margin of victory is the largest for Olivet in a MIAA game since November 2, 2013 – 5-1 win over Trine (Ind.) University.
- The last time Olivet shutout a MIAA opponent by four or more goals was November 8, 2008 – 4-0 over Alma.
- The Comets play their next two games inside the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. The first game is Thursday when Olivet faces Hope College in a rescheduled game, starting at 4:30 p.m. The second game is Saturday when Adrian College comes to Olivet for a 4 p.m. game.
