OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's soccer team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Trine (Ind.) University, 3-1, today at the Cutler Athletic Complex.
- Final Score: Trine 3, Olivet 1
- Location: Cutler Athletic Complex; Olivet, Michigan
- Records: Olivet 3-6-3 overall, 0-1-2 MIAA; Trine 6-4-2 overall, 1-1-1 MIAA
- Trine wasted no time in taking a 1-0 lead, as Luke Kearns scored four minutes into the game. Alhusain Yahya was credited with an assist on the goal.
- The Thunder doubled their lead in the 38th minute on a goal by Tyler Murphy.
- The score remained 2-0 at halftime.
- The Comets started to turn up the pressure on the offensive end in the second half. A free kick by senior Dominik Burmeister in the 54th minute and a shot by sophomore Carter Scheel in the 60th minute were saved by the keeper.
- Olivet got on the scoreboard in the 70th minute. Sophomore Kyle Wendt's corner kick bent into the goal at the far post.
- Trine answered around six minutes on a goal by Murphy to push its advantage back to two goals.
- Olivet finished the game with 11 shots, including five on-frame.
- Scheel, freshman Braden Abbott and senior Kjeil Dickinson each recorded two shots.
- Junior Carlos Santos started in goal and played 77 minutes and 47 seconds before junior Ian Morrison played the final 12 minutes and 13 seconds. Santos made three saves.
- Trine tallied 14 shots, with six on-goal.
- Murphy had four shots to go along with his two goals.
- Four other registered two shots apiece.
- Aidan McGonagle earned the win in goal, as he collected four saves in the complete game performance.
- The Comets play a 2:30 p.m. game Saturday at Hope College.
