OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's soccer team fell to DePauw (Ind.) University, 5-1, in its home-opener this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex.
- Final Score: DePauw 5, Olivet 1
- Location: Cutler Athletic Complex; Olivet, Michigan
- Records: DePauw 3-1-1 overall, Olivet 0-3-1 overall
- The Comets had an early chance to score but sophomore Carter Scheel's shot was saved by the keeper.
- Off the goal kick, the Tigers worked their way down the field and eventually Quinn Flaspohler ripped a shot into the net for the first goal of the game.
- DePauw added another goal in the 19th minute to lead 2-0 at halftime.
- The Tigers stretched their lead to 3-0 with a goal around 10 minutes into the second half.
- Olivet got on the scoreboard in the 62nd minute. The referee ruled a DePauw defender touched the ball inside the box. Senior Dominik Burmeister stepped to the spot and converted the penalty kick goal.
- There was no more scoring until the Tigers netted back-to-back goals in a 41-second span at 87:20 and 88:01.
- Olivet finished the contest with 11 total shots, with only four being placed on-goal.
- Scheel tallied three shots.
- Burmeister along with freshman Braden Abbott and senior Noah Runnals each took two shots.
- Junior Carlos Santos suffered the loss in goal, as he faced 14 shots and made fives.
- Sam Thiel scored two goals and assisted on two other goals.
- The other goals were scored by Flaspohler, Jack Kirby and Jack Powers.
- For players – Kirby, Thiel, Alex McCarty and Ben Weidner – had two shots apiece.
- Alex Lundin earned the win in goal. He collected three saves.
- The Comets host Rochester University next Wednesday, September 14. The game is a part of a soccer doubleheader, as the Olivet women also play Rochester at 2:30 p.m., with the men's game to follow at approximately 5 p.m.
