The Olivet College men's soccer team defeated Rochester College, 2-1, this afternoon indoors at the Ultimate Soccer Arena in Wixom.
There was no scoring in the first half. Olivet got on the scoreboard first when freshman Matt Garza (Pinckney/Saline) buried a shot into the back of the net. Freshman Bung Jin Lee (Kentwood/East Kentwood) earned his first collegiate point with an assist on the goal. The Warriors battled back to tie the game. The Comets tallied the game-winner with about five minutes left in the contest. Off a corner kick by Garza, freshman Cole Dehen (Kentwood/East Kentwood) sent a shot into the goal.
"This was a back-and-forth game," said Head Coach Chad Wiseman. "Playing two games in less than 24 hours is tough, but our character showed late in the game when we needed a goal. We were able to grind it out and get the win."
Olivet will co-host a tournament with Alma College next Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19-20. On Saturday, the Comets will play Anderson (Ind.) University at 2 p.m., and on Sunday, they will play University of Wisc.-Whitewater. Alma will play Whitewater Saturday, and Anderson Sunday.
