Men’s soccer team falls to Albion, 3-1
The Olivet College men’s soccer team fell to Albion College, 3-1, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest today at Alumni Field in Albion. With the win, Albion (7-8, 5-4 MIAA) moves into third-place with 15 points in the MIAA standings, while Olivet (8-5-2, 4-3-2 MIAA) drops to fourth-place with 14 points.

For the Britons, Garrett Kuhlman scored two quick goals in the first eight minutes of the game. The first goal came at the 5:48 mark, and the second was less than two minutes later at the 7:38 mark. The score stayed 2-0 at halftime. Albion added to its lead on a goal by Jon Cannell in the 56th minute. The Comets broke up the shutout with just 2:38 left in the game when junior Matt Manning (Charlotte) knocked a penalty kick goal. The PK was called when an Albion player was whistled for a foul inside the box.
For the game, Olivet had a 13-11 edge in shots. Manning, freshman Matt Garza (Saline), junior Matt Jenca (Lansing/Holt) and freshman Jacob Jensen (Vicksburg) each took two shots. Junior Ethan Felsing (Mason) played the first half in goal, faced eight shots and made five saves. Freshman Sam Cusmano (Haslett) was in net for the second half and collected one save on three shots.
The Comets travel to Grand Rapids to play MIAA-leader Calvin College Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
NOTES: The first goal by the Britons was the first goal allowed by Olivet in 319 minutes, 46 seconds. The Comets had not given up three goals in a goal since the second game of the season. The goal by Manning was the first of his career.
