Men's soccer team celebrates 2009 season with postseason banquet
The Olivet College men’s soccer team presented its 2009 season awards and honored the career of one graduating senior, Andrew Evans (Petoskey/Petoskey), Sunday, Jan. 24 with a postseason banquet at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall.
The Olivet College men's soccer team presented its 2009 season awards and honored the career of one graduating senior, Andrew Evans (Petoskey/Petoskey), Sunday, Jan. 24 with a postseason banquet at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall.
Junior goalkeeper Ethan Felsing (Mason/Mason) was named Most Valuable Player. He started all 20 games in goal for the Comets, posting a 0.73 goals against average and nine shutouts. Felsing allowed just 14 goals in 1,718 minutes of action, while making 102 saves. In the final NCAA rankings, he was 11th in saves percentage (.879).
Freshman defender Cole Dehen (Kentwood/East Kentwood) was named Newcomer of the Year. He started in all 20 matches and scored his first career goal against Rochester, which ended up being the game-winning goal. Dehen helped direct the Olivet defense, which gave up only a school-record 16 goals.
Freshman midfielder Danny Casey-Dunn (Lansing/Lansing Catholic Central) was named Most Improved Player. Casey-Dunn played in 19 matches, starting 13. He scored two goals and added two assists. One was an overtime, game-winning goal against Kalamazoo College.
Evans received the Senior Award. He competed in 72 career matches, including 66 starts. Evans finished his career with five goals and seven assists. In 2009, he was named to the all-tournament team at the Alma/Olivet Soccer Classic.
