Olivet College’s Krieger and Minaudo earn All-MIAA honors
Olivet College men’s lacrosse players -- juniors Logan Krieger and Nino Minaudo -- have earned 2016 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) honors.
FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College men's lacrosse players -- juniors Logan Krieger and Nino Minaudo -- have earned 2016 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) honors. Krieger is a first-team selection at the midfield position, while Minaudo is a second-team pick at attack. All-league honors are based on a player's statistics during the seven-game conference schedule.
Under the leadership of first-year head coach Matt Holtz, the Comets have a 6-9 overall record and were fourth in the MIAA standings with a 4-3 record. In addition, Olivet advanced to the MIAA Tournament semifinals for a third consecutive year and are in action right now against Albion College.
"The third year in a row making the MIAA Tournament is critical," said Holtz. "In the past, we were simply happy to be here. This year, we are keenly focused on winning the tournament. We will have a tough game against Albion but I think we have a shot at it."
Krieger finished MIAA play with 25 points (15 goals and 10 assists) to go along with 42 shots. For the entire 15-game schedule, he was seond on the team in man-up goals (six), third in scoring (41 points), goals (28) and shots (82), and fourth in assists (13).
"Logan has been a consistent player all year at midfield," stated Holtz. "He is able to create for himself as well as play off ball to get feeds from others. Overall, Logan is a big and physical presence on the midfield for us."
Minaudo started all seven MIAA games, ranking third in assists (18), fourth in points (36), and sixth in goals (18) and shots (58). Overall in 15 games, he led Olivet and was third among league players in scoring (74 points) and assists (34), and fifth in goals (40).
"Nino has been working as hard as anyone on the team to get better and it shows," Holtz said. "He has improved greatly in the time I've been here."
