Men’s golf team in sixth after first round of Lou Collins Memorial Tournament

The Comets posted a 311 team score, which is only one stroke behind fifth-place Alma College and four behind fourth-place Aquinas College. Indiana Wesleyan University leads the 15-team field with a 298. Madonna University is second at 300, followed by Owens Community College (Ohio) at 305. Alma's Marty Predmesky is the individual leader after 18 holes with a one-under par 70.
Leading the way for Olivet is senior Justin Ardelean (Owosso), who has a one-over par 72. Junior Nick Julian (Clinton Twp./Chippewa Valley) shot a 76. Senior Cody Crites (Owosso) is four strokes behind with an 80. Freshman Benjamin Hart (Rockford/Lowell) needed 83 strokes to complete his first competitive collegiate round of golf.
Following tomorrow's round, the Comets will shift their focus to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play. The first of eight MIAA jamborees will be held next Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Milham Park Golf Course in Kalamazoo.
