Men’s golf team leads Lou Collins Memorial Tournament
Paced by freshman Kory Roberts’ one-over par 72, the Olivet College men’s golf team sits in first-place after the first round of the 2011 Lou Collins Memorial Tournament, which is being played at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Paced by freshman Kory Roberts' (Battle Creek/Lakeview) one-over par 72, the Olivet College men's golf team sits in first-place after the first round of the 2011 Lou Collins Memorial Tournament, which is being played at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek. Tomorrow's second and final round has an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
The Comets lead the 15-team field with a 298 team score. Calvin College is right behind them with a 300. The rest of the top five are Madonna University, 302; Alma College, 305; and Hope College, 306. Vince Carango from Madonna tops the player standings with a three-under par 68.
Roberts had a 36 on the front and back nines for his 72. His round featured birdies on holes #4 and #17, bogies on holes #3, #9 and #15, and pars on the remaining 13 holes. Sophomore Nick Julian (Clinton Twp./Chippewa Valley) finished with a two-over par 73, including a 34 on the front nine with birdies on holes #1 and #9.
Junior Ronnie Fesko (Henderson/Owosso) completed his round in 75 strokes, with a birdie on hole #4. Senior Cameron Sich (Saginaw/Frankenmuth) shot a 78, with a birdie on hole #10. Junior Justin Ardelean (Owosso) posted a 79, with a birdie on hole #13.
After tomorrow's round, Olivet turns its attention to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. The first league jamboree is next Thursday, Sept. 8, at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall.
