Men's golf team captures team title at the Lou Collins Classic

After posting a 302 team in Friday's first round, the Comets lowered their score by 12 strokes to 290 for a two-day total of 592. Bethel (Ind.) College was second with a 609 (309-300), followed by Hope College, 614 (308-306); Spring Arbor University, 616 (311-305); and Indiana Wesleyan University, 618 (317-301).
Ross recorded back-to-back even par rounds of 71 for his 142. Junior Jacob Johnson (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) finished in third-place with a 147, including a one-under par 70 in today's round. He was the only golfer in the tournament to shoot an under-par round. Senior Joe Kiss (East Leroy/Harper Creek) tied for fifth-place with a 149 (78-71). Junior Justin Lesansky (LaSalle, Ontario/International) was next at 156 (76-80). Junior Brock Gleadall (Stratford, Ontario/St. Michael's Catholic) had a 161 (83-78).
Olivet's second-team finished in ninth-place with a two-day total of 634 strokes (322-312). Sophomore Branden Stewart (Barrie, Ontario/Innisdale Secondary) led this group with a 155 (78-77).
Olivet opens its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schedule with a jamboree next Wednesday, Sept. 5 at The Medalist Golf in Marshall. Albion is the host school.
