The men’s golf team climbed six spots to finish in fifth-place at The Nye Intercollegiate hosted by the College of Wooster (Ohio) and Wooster Country Club. The Fighting Comets were in 11th-place after Friday’s first round with a team score of 334 strokes.

Olivet had the best team score, 297, in today's second round and finished with a two-day score of 631 strokes. Otterbein (Ohio) College led the 16-team field with a 614 (306-308). Mount Union (Ohio) College was the runner-up with a 624 (308-316), followed by DePauw (Ind.) University (625) and Ohio Wesleyan University (629).
Individually, junior Mike Ward (Caledonia, Ontario) tied for fourth with a 151 (76-75). Freshman Christian Rowe (Midland Dow) was next with a 157 (84-73). Senior Jon Stapleton (Oakville, Ontario) had a 162 (84-78). After shooting a 90 in the first round, freshman Joe Kiss (East Leroy/Harper Creek) shot 17 strokes better today for a two-day score of 163. Junior Steve Ross (Rockford) also improved by 17 strokes today for a two-day score of 169 (93-76).
Olivet will next compete tomorrow in the 12th annual Pat Flowers Invitational hosted by John Carroll (Ohio) University and the Fowler's Mill Golf Course. Action in the 27-hole invitational begins with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m.
