The first-team players tallied a team score of 308 strokes while the second-team tallied a 303. Franklin (Ind.) College leads the 21-team field with a 292, followed by Davenport University with a 298 and Indiana Wesleyan University with a 302. The top individual player is Olivet second-teamer Mike Ward (Caledonia, Ontario) with a three-under par 68.
The Olivet first-team is led by senior Jon Stapleton (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville-Trafalgar) with a 72. Senior Mike Dinner (Oakville, Ontario/St. Ignatius of Loyola) and sophomore Dan Wiers (Byron Center/South Christian) each fired a 76, followed by senior Jeff Jardine (Collingwood, Ontario/Collingwood Collegiate) and freshman Christian Rowe (Midland Dow High School) with an 84 and 88, respectively.
Following Ward in the Olivet second-team lineup were freshman Joe Kiss (East Leroy/Harper Creek) and junior Steve Ross (Rockford) with a 77, freshman Justin Gusczinski (Hanover-Horton) with an 81 and sophomore Kyle Thibeault (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario/International) with an 83.
The Comets also had a third-team compete, and they stand in 16th-place with a 318.
After tomorrow's second round, Olivet opens Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play at the first jamboree on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at The Medalist Golf Club. Albion College will serve as the host.
