Men's golf team ties for fourth-place at Groseclose Memorial
The Olivet College men’s golf team tied for fourth-place of 10 teams at the Groseclose Memorial Invitational hosted by Otterbein (Ohio) College at The Medallion Club in Westerville.
The Olivet College men's golf team tied for fourth-place of 10 teams at the Groseclose Memorial Invitational hosted by Otterbein (Ohio) College at The Medallion Club in Westerville.
For the first 18 holes, the Fighting Comets had a team score of 336 strokes. On the second round, they had a 322 for a two-round score of 658 strokes to tie Capital (Ohio) University. The host Cardinals won the team title with a 598, followed by Franklin (Ind.) College with a 621 and Mt. Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University with a 634.
Junior Jon Stapleton (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville-Trafalgar) led Olivet with a 161. Following an 83 in the first round, he shot a 78 in the second round. Junior Mike Dinner (Oakville, Ontario/St. Ignatius of Loyola) had identical rounds of 82 for a two-round total of 164 strokes.
Following Dinner and Stapleton were junior Jeff Jardine (Collingwood, Ontario/Collingwood Collegiate) with a 165 (86-79), senior Ryan Spencer (Chatham, Ontario/Chatham-Kent) with a 171 (88-83) and junior Stew Halstead (Kelowna, British Columbia/Mount Boucherie) with a 182 (85-97). Junior Andrew Wismer (Thornhill, Ontario/Thornhill Secondary) participated as an individual and fired a 167 (85-82).
The Comets will now wait to see if they will earn a bid to participate in the NCAA National Championships at the PGA of Southern California Golf Club at Oak Valley on May 10-13.
