UOlivet defeats Hope, 66-52

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's basketball team defeated Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Hope College, 66-53, tonight at the Cutler Event Center.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game began with a slam dunk by freshman Porter Kretschman. There were then six lead changes and three tied scores. After tying the game at 8-8, the Comets scored the next two baskets. Hope quickly went ahead with a layup and three-point play. Olivet took the lead back before the Flying Dutchmen went on a 9-0 run to take an eight-point lead, 22-14, at the 8:21 mark.
- Olivet battled back with to even the score at 25-25 with 3:49 left in the opening half. The teams traded baskets, which resulted in three more tied scores. Hope tied the game, 32-32, before sophomore Conner Schipper split two free throws to make the score 33-32 at halftime.
- There were four lead changes and two tied scores in the first two and half minutes of the second half. Sophomore Nathan Richardson broke a 38-38 deadlock with a jump shot. The Comets held the lead for the rest of the game. Olivet's largest lead was 17 points.
- For the game, the Comets shot 50.0 percent (27-of-54) to 35.8 percent (19-of-53) for the Flying Dutchmen.
FOR THE COMETS
- Richardson posted game-highs in points (23), assists (4) and steals (5).
- Kretschman scored 17 points, including three slam dunks, and grabbed a game-best eight rebounds.
- Schipper finished with 11 points, six rebounds and two blocks.
UP NEXT
- The Comets host Alma College in their regular season finale Saturday night at 7 p.m. Before the game, Olivet will recognize its four seniors.
