Richardson and Schipper lead UOlivet past DePauw, 84-77

HOLLAND, Mich. – Sophomores Nathan Richardson and Conner Schipper each scored 22 points to help The University of Olivet men's basketball team defeat DePauw (Ind.) University, 84-77, in its first game at the Hope College / Glenn Van Wieren Classic this afternoon at the DeVos Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets scored the first seven points – two by Richardson and five by Schipper – of the game. The Tigers responded with back-to-back three-pointers to cut their deficit to one point. Olivet eventually pushed its lead to 13 points, 27-14, after freshman Porter Kretschman drained a three-point basket with 8:13 left before halftime. DePauw closed the gap to eight points twice. After the last time at 39-31, a fastbreak layup by Kretschman put Olivet ahead by 10 points, 41-31, at halftime.
- In the second half, the Comets extended their lead to as many as 17 points on two occasions. Following the second time at 70-53, the Tigers used four triples in the final minute of the game to trim their deficit to six points.
- For the game, Olivet posted 52.5 field goal percentage (31-of-59) compared to 37.9 percent (25-of-66) for DePauw. The Comets committed a season-low nine turnovers.

- Schipper made seven baskets, including three three-pointers, and five free throws for his 22 points.
- Richardson shot 10-of-16, with a three-pointer, and one free throw for his 22 points.

- Richardson and junior Evan Honnen each dished out three assists.
- Kretschman and Richardson tallied four and three steals, respectively.
- Sophomore Lee Hardy added seven points and seven rebounds.
