Kalamazoo made a three-pointer before a layup for Olivet made the score 10-9. From there, the Hornets went on a 23-8 spurt over the next eight minutes to extend their lead to 16 points, 33-17, with 8:23 left until halftime. The Comets clawed their way back to trail by only two points, 43-41, at the intermission.
- Early in the second half, Kalamazoo led by five points on three occasions. Following the third time at 52-47, Olivet went on a 9-1 run to take a 56-53 lead with 12:35 remaining in the game. The Hornets responded with a four-point play to go up by one. The Comets came back with a triple to regain the lead. Kalamazoo, again, had an answer with its own three-pointer to take the lead back, 60-59. Olivet did not get any closer for the rest of the game.
- Freshman Nathan Richardson led Olivet with 15 points.
- Senior Noah Wiswary tallied 11 points to go along with six assists.
- Freshman Conner Schipper grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds.
- "We did a great job getting back into the game after a bad start," said Olivet head coach Sam Hargraves. "The last eight minutes of the game was incredible. They missed enough shots and free throws during that stretch to give us a chance too, but we couldn't capitalize. We shot 1-of-13 in that final eight minutes with four turnovers and they got seven offensive rebounds. Obviously, we gave ourselves no chance with that effort."
- The Comets welcome Adrian College to the Cutler Event Center next Wednesday, January 31. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
