Upshaw’s 23 points lead men’s basketball team to 83-69 win at Albion

ALBION, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team defeated Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College, 83-69, tonight at Kresge Gymnasium.

- Sophomore Lorris Upshaw scored the first 11 of the first 13 Comet points, helping them take a 13-4 lead. The Britons battled back to trim their deficit down to three points, 20-17, with 10:15 left in the opening half. Olivet then used a 16-4 run to gain its largest advantage of the game, 36-21, at the 2:18 mark. The teams played even for the rest of the half, as the Comets led 41-26 at the intermission. In the second half, Olivet extended its lead to as many as 28 points on two occasions, 74-46 and 76-48.
- For the game, Olivet posted a 58.2 field goal percentage by making 32-of-55 baskets. The Comets drained 12-of-23 three-pointers and were 7-of-8 from the free throw line.
- Upshaw scored a game-high 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor. He made three-pointers and each of his four free throw attempts.
- Senior Derrick Johnson scored 14 points, with four triples.
- Freshman Haidyn Garrison and senior Ryan Robinette each netted 10 points.
- Senior Tevin Ali grabbed a game-best nine rebounds.
- Ken Thomas and Fred Garland combined for 41 of the 69 Albion points. Thomas had 21 and Garland finished with 20.
- Thomas and Kameron Mayes pulled down six rebounds apiece.
- Olivet plays a 3 p.m. game Saturday at Kalamazoo College. It is the second game of a basketball doubleheader at the Anderson Athletic Center, as the Comet women also play the Hornets. The women's game tips-off at 1 p.m.
