Men’s basketball team falls to Capital, 79-72

BEXLEY, Ohio – The Olivet College men's basketball team was on the losing end of 79-72 score to Capital (Ohio) University today inside the Capital Performance Center.

- The teams exchanged three-pointers and two layups early in the game to create 5-5 and 7-7 tied scores. Capital made the next basket, a three-pointer, and eventually led by 13 points on two occasions. After the last time at 39-26, Olivet went on an 8-0 run (two three-pointers by senior Derrick Johnson and a dunk by freshman Haidyn Garrison) to cut its deficit down to five points. Capital pushed its lead back to double digits before a Garrison layup and an old-fashioned three-point play by senior Tevin Ali made it a five-point game, 44-39, at halftime.
- Olivet battled back in the second half and eventually took a 58-55 lead after junior Ryan Bart drained a three-pointer at the 10:05 mark. Capital scored the next six points and did not relinquish its lead for the rest of the game.
- Four players scored in double figures, led by senior Ryan Robinette's game-high 19 points.
- Bart scored 13 points, with three baskets from behind the arc.
- Ali and Garrison added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Both players also grabbed eight rebounds.
- Senior Noah Wiswary recorded seven assists.
- Carter Combs scored 18 points.
- Griffin Doseck netted 14 points.
- Kaleb Crawford tallied 12 points.
- Justin Nixon came off the bench to pull down a game-best nine rebounds.
- Olivet plays an exhibition game next Sunday, November 27, at Northwood University. The next countable games are Friday and Saturday, December 2-3, at the 38th Annual Washington (Mo.) University / Lopata Tourmament. The Comets face Pomona-Pitzer (Calif.) College Friday night at 6 p.m. ET. The consolation and championship games are the next night at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. The other opening game is Eureka (Ill.) College against the host Bears.
