Men’s basketball team ends season with 86-60 loss at Calvin
The Olivet College men’s basketball team closed out the 2012-13 regular season with an 86-60 loss to Calvin College today at the Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team ended its 2012-13 season with an 86-60 loss to Calvin College today at the Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids.
In the early stages of the game, Calvin led by six points on two occasions with the last time being 11-5 at the 15:13 mark. The Comets fought back and tied the game at 17-17 with 9:24 left in the first half. The Knights then scored 17 of the next 19 points to take a 34-19 lead before settling for a 14-point lead, 40-26, at halftime. Olivet got no closer than 11 points in the second half.
Sophomore Blake Krum (Schoolcraft) was one of three Comets in double figures, scoring a game-high 17 points. Freshman Jeff Cain (Lansing/Sexton) chipped-in with 14 points, while junior DaunTrell Hill (Grand Rapids/Wyoming Godwin Heights) had 11 off the bench. Senior Dakotah Ellis (Birch Run) and freshman T.J. Vondette (Hemlock) each grabbed five rebounds.
Tyler Dykstra and Tyler Kruis scored 14 points apiece for the Knights. Micky DeVries had 12 points. He and Kruis shared game-high honors in rebounding with nine each.
The Comets finish the season with an 11-14 record and were fifth in the MIAA with a 6-8 record.
