Men’s basketball team falls to Mich.-Dearborn, 71-62
The Olivet College men’s basketball team fell to University of Mich.-Dearborn, 71-62, this evening in the second day of the 2011 MIAA-WHAC Challenge at the Field House in Dearborn.
DEARBORN, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team fell to University of Mich.-Dearborn, 71-62, this evening in the second day of the 2011 MIAA-WHAC Challenge at the Field House in Dearborn. Coupled with Madonna's win in tonight's first game, the WHAC wins the challenge, three games to one.
In the first half, the Comets were down by 10 points on four occasions with the last time being 32-22 with 3:43 left before halftime. Olivet scored the final five points of the half to trim its deficit to five, 32-27. The Wolves started the second half with an 11-3 run to stretch the lead to 13 points, 43-30, and then eventually lead by as many as 17 points. The closest the Comets would get was seven points.
Junior Alvino Ashley (Detroit/Martin Luther King) came off the bench to score 18 points and grab eight rebounds. Senior Jaren Edsall (Whitehall) added 15 points. Junior Matt El (Allegan) posted his second straight double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
For Dearborn, Julius Porter led all scorers with 28 points, while Charles Baskin had 10. Jeff Fick pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
Olivet (0-3) will return to the court next Tuesday, Nov. 22, when it travels to play Ferris State University. Tip-off from Jim Wink Arena is 7 p.m.
