Olivet College junior center Michael McClary (Bellaire) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Player of the Week for men's basketball. He has been honored five times this season, including three of the last four weeks, and seven times in his career.
McClary scored 51 points and grabbed 23 rebounds, as the Comets split two MIAA games last week. In a 65-64 overtime loss at Adrian College Jan. 20, he had 27 points and 16 rebounds for the 30th double-double of his collegiate career. McClary then scored 24 points and pulled down seven rebounds in a 74-57 victory against Alma College Jan. 23. He also blocked two shot to raise his career total to 111, which breaks the Olivet all-time record. For the week, McClary made 23-of-32 (71.9 percent) shots and 5-of-6 (83.3 percent) free throws.
For the season, McClary is the only MIAA player in to average a double-double, 19.5 ppg and 10.9 rpg. He also needs just 45 points to become the 13th player in school history to score 1,000 points.
The Comets (8-9, 3-3 MIAA) will be on the road for their two games this week, beginning Wednesday night against Kalamazoo College at 7:30 p.m.
