The Olivet College men's basketball team lost an overtime heartbreaker to Adrian College, 65-64, tonight at the Merillat Center in Adrian.
The Comets led the entire first half with the 11-point margin, 36-25, at halftime being their largest lead. The Bulldogs started the second half with a 13-2 run to tie the game at 38-38. Olivet answered with a 12-2 run to regain a 10-point lead. Adrian slowly chipped away at the deficit and cut it to one, 54-53 and 57-56.
With 44 seconds left in regulation, Jovon Mosley knocked down a three-pointer for the Bulldogs to force overtime with the scored tied at 59-59. In the extra session, Adrian scored the first two points for its first lead of the game. Olivet tied the game with a jumper and took the lead back with a free throw, 62-61. After the Bulldogs made a jump shot to go back ahead by one, the Comets grabbed the lead back, 64-63. Adrian hit game-winning free throws with 29 seconds remaining.
Junior Michael McClary (Bellaire) posted his 30th collegiate double-double, 27 points and 16 rebounds, to lead Olivet. Junior Nathan Jennings (Grant) finished with 17 points. Junior Andre Evans (Muskegon/Heights) recorded five assists.
Mosley led all scorers with 29 points. Wesley Reed added 10 points, while Dennis Mason grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
The Comets return home Saturday to face Alma College at 3 p.m.
