Men’s basketball team loses to Spring Arbor, 67-63

In the first half, the Cougars led by as many as five points, 16-11. They continued to lead until the Comets grabbed a 22-21 advantage when junior Joel Kerns (North Judson, Ind./North Judson) knocked down a three-pointer. After Olivet extended its lead to 28-24, Spring Arbor outscored the Comets in 6-2 in the final minute of the half to tie the game, 30-30, at the break.
The Cougars built their lead to eight points, 53-45. Olivet closed to within one point twice in the final three minutes of play.
Sophomore Michael McClary (Bellaire) finished with 19 points to pace the Comets. Junior James Scott (Detroit/Finney) also reached double figures with 11 points. Senior Brandon McClary (Bellaire) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore Joe Post (Olivet) dished out a game-high eight assists.
For Spring Arbor, Rob Boss poured in game-high 24 points and pulled down a team-leading nine rebounds. Kevin Ludwig and D.J. Baisden chipped in with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Olivet returns to the court next Tuesday, Dec. 16, when it hosts Franklin College for a non-league game. Tip-off from The Cutler Event Center in Olivet is 7 p.m.
