McClary brothers lead men's basketball team to an 83-73 win over Mich.-Dearborn
Sophomore Michael McClary (Bellaire) posted a double-double (24 points and 11 rebounds) and senior Brandon McClary (Bellaire) scored 18 points to lead the Olivet College men’s basketball team to 83-73 win over University of Mich.-Dearborn (UMD) tonight in the second round of the 2008 MIAA-WHAC Classic at Alma College’s Cappeart Gymnasium.
Sophomore Michael McClary (Bellaire) posted a double-double (24 points and 11 rebounds) and senior Brandon McClary (Bellaire) scored 18 points to lead the Olivet College men's basketball team to 83-73 win over University of Mich.-Dearborn (UMD) tonight in the second round of the 2008 MIAA-WHAC Classic at Alma College's Cappeart Gymnasium. Coupled with its 70-66 win against Madonna University last night, Olivet had a 2-0 record against its WHAC opponents.
UMD (4-6) scored the last five points of the first half to take a 38-33 lead into the locker rooms. The Wolves extended their lead to seven points, 46-39, with 17 minutes remaining in the game. The Comets (4-4) answered with an 18-4 run to take its own seven-point lead, 57-50, at the 10:13 mark. Brandon McClary scored eight points during the scoring spurt, which was capped by a layup by sophomore Joe Post (Olivet).
UMD trimmed its deficit down to one point with just over six minutes left in the game. Olivet made 9-of-10 free throws in the final minute to seal its win and stretch the lead to 10 points.
Michael McClary drained 11-of-17 baskets and two free throws for his 24 points. Brandon McClary canned 7-of-13 baskets and four free throws for his 18 points. Sophomore Andre Evans (Muskegon/Muskegon Heights) scored 15 points, including a perfect 10-of-10 performance from the charity stripe. Junior Joel Kerns (North Judson, Ind./North Judson) joined them in double figures with 11 points. Off the bench, Post dished out six assists.
For the Wolves, Myke White had a team-high 19 points. Shane DeNooljier and Thomas Johnson each scored 11, while Nick Kosovich added 10.
Olivet is back in action Friday, Dec. 12 when it travels to play Spring Arbor University at 7 p.m.
