McClary brothers lead men's basketball team to 72-65 overtime win at Kalamazoo

Brandon scored 20 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, while Michael had 22 points and 15 rebounds. Junior Joel Kerns (North Judson, Ind.) joined them in double figures with 10 points. Kerns along with sophomore Joe Post (Olivet) dished out five assists apiece.
In the first half, Kalamazoo led by as many as 11 points, 23-12, at the 10:53 mark. Olivet then went on a 16-5 run to trim its deficit to two points, 30-28, with 4:04 left before halftime. The Hornets settled for a 37-31 lead at halftime.
Kalamazoo had the lead in the second half until the 15:56 when the Comets tied the game at 43-43. The teams exchanged baskets to force another tie at 45-45. After that tie, Kerns made a free throw to complete a three-point play. The Hornets forced overtime when Henry McCain made 1-of-2 free throws with 34 seconds left in regulation. Olivet had three chances to win the game in regulation.
In overtime, Brandon McClary put the Comets ahead but McCain answered for the Hornets with a three-pointer. Brandon gave Olivet the lead back, 66-65. Michael McClary then scored the final six points of the game. In the extra period, the Comets made 4-of-5 baskets, while the Hornets were 1-for-7.
McCain led all scorers with 26 points. He also grabbed eight rebounds for Kalamazoo, who was out-rebounded, 53-36.
Olivet returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 20, when it plays at Calvin College. Tip-off from VanNoord Arena is 7:30 p.m.
