Michael McClary’s double-double leads Olivet College men’s basketball team to a 90-85 win over Brescia (Ky.)
Freshman Michael McClary (Bellaire) had a double-double, 21 points and 15 rebounds, to lead the Olivet College men’s basketball team to a 90-85 win over Brescia (Ky.) University this afternoon in the consolation game of the 15th Annual Hanover (Ind.) College John R. Collier Tournament at the Collier Arena in Hanover, Ind.
Freshman Michael McClary (Bellaire) had a double-double, 21 points and 15 rebounds, to lead the Olivet College men's basketball team to a 90-85 win over Brescia (Ky.) University this afternoon in the consolation game of the 15th Annual Hanover (Ind.) College John R. Collier Tournament at the Collier Arena in Hanover, Ind. For his efforts in the tournament, senior Brandon Way (Detroit/Southwestern) was selected to the all-tournament team.
Neither team led by more than five points in the first half, as Brescia held a 52-48 lead at halftime. Early in the second half, Brescia stretched its lead to six points, 56-50. The Comets (1-2) slowly chipped away at their deficit and took their first lead, 62-61, at the 13:08 mark.
After Brescia grabbed the lead back by a point, 63-62, Olivet went on a 12-2 scoring spurt to take a nine-point lead, 74-65. The Comets held the lead for the rest of the game.
Michael McClary made nine baskets and three free throws for his 21 points. Eight of his 15 rebounds were off the offensive glass. Way contributed 17 points with five three-pointers. Senior Jeff Cooper (Dowagiac) and sophomore Joel Kerns (North Judson, Ind.) each had 13 points. Cooper was a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line, while Kerns made 6-of-7 baskets. Junior Brandon McClary (Bellaire) just missed a double-double, as he had 11 points and nine rebounds.
The duo of Andrew Howard and Anthony McNeal led Brescia with 31 and 27 points, respectively. McNeal also had seven rebounds for Brescia, who was out-rebounded, 45-29.
The Comets will return to Michigan and will travel to play Concordia University Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 7:30 p.m.
