Men’s Basketball Team Defeats Wilmington (Ohio) College, 91-69, in its Season Opener
The Olivet College men’s basketball team defeated Wilmington (Ohio) College, 91-69, in its season opener at the Wilmington Fred Raizk Tip-Off Tournament. With the win, the Comets will play Goshen (Ind.) College in the championship game tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.
WILMINGTON, OHIO -- The Olivet College men's basketball team defeated Wilmington (Ohio) College, 91-69, in its season opener at the Wilmington Fred Raizk Tip-Off Tournament. With the win, the Comets will play Goshen (Ind.) College in the championship game tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.
The Comets jumped out to a 13-0 lead to start the game. Wilmington battled back and cut the lead to four points at the 9:20 mark of the first half. Olivet responded with a 21-7 run to stretch its lead to 18 points when junior Michael Dyson (Kalamazoo/ Loy Norrix High School) made back-to-back three-pointers. The Comets led 41-27 at halftime.
In the second half, the Comets stretched their lead to as many as 28 points at 80-52 with 6:19 left when Dyson connected on another three-pointer.
In the game, Dyson led Olivet with 27 points on 10-of-20 shooting, including five-of-seven three-pointers. Sophomore Ronnie Pearson (Holly High School) and junior Matt Brawley (Niles High School) chipped in with 14 and 10 points, respectively. As a team, the Comets made 39-of-74 shots. Pearson also grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Junior Travis Schellhammer (Grand Ledge High School) dished out six assists.
Following its game tomorrow, Olivet next play on Tuesday, Nov. 26 when it hosts Tri-State (Ind.) University in a non-league at Upton Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
