Football: Olivet loses to Hanover in home-opener

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet football team lost 67-17 to Hanover (Ind.) College in its home-opener this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

- Records: Olivet 1-2 overall, Hanover 2-0 overall
- The Panthers scored three touchdowns in both the first and second quarters to lead 42-0 at halftime.
- Hanover added another touchdown in the third quarter to extend its lead to 48-0.
- The Comets got on the scoreboard for the first time with two minutes left in the third stanza when freshman Christian Legal made a 37-yard field goal.
- Olivet scored on its first drive of the fourth quarter when junior Evan Ormsby threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Nate Briggs.
- The Panthers answered with a touchdown on their next offensive series and an interception return for a touchdown on the Comets' ensuing drive.
- Olivet capped its scoring with 5:06 remaining in the game when sophomore Charlie Grant tossed a 21-yard touchdown to junior Ryan White. Legal's PAT kick was good to make the score 61-17.
- Hanover ended the scoring with a touchdown at the 3:17 mark.
- Olivet totaled 328 yards of offense compared to 659 for the Panthers.
- Three quarterbacks combined to complete 27-of-53 passes for 288 yards and four touchdowns.
- Senior SirQuarius Ball hauled in six passes for 104 yards.
- Freshman Andrew Brown caught seven passes for 65 yards.
- Sophomore Dontal Wright had 11 carries for 34 yards.
- Sophomore Cole Barker led the defense with 10 tackles.
- Junior Jeramey King was next with seven tackles.
- After having their bye week next Saturday, the Comets return to the field September 30, when they welcome Alfred State (N.Y.) College to the Cutler Athletic Complex for a non-conference game. Kick-off is at 12 p.m.
