Football team drops 23-0 game at Hope

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College football team was on the losing end of a 23-0 final to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Hope College today at Ray & Sue Smith Stadium.

- The Flying Dutchmen received the opening kickoff and marched down the field, scoring a touchdown on a 1-yard run by Dan Romano.
- The teams traded punts to end drives for the rest of the first quarter.
- Olivet recovered a fumble at the Hope 12-yard line. The Comets did not take advantage of the turnover, as they fumbled the ball back to the Flying Dutchmen on their second play.
- Hope then used a 10-play, 85-yard drive to extend its lead to 14-0 at the 7:02 mark of the second stanza.
- The Flying Dutchmen forced a three-and-out for Olivet. The Comets' punt was blocked and returned for a touchdown. The PAT kick was missed, and Hope led 20-0.
- Dylan Hillger made a 28-yard field on the Flying Dutchmen's first possession of the third quarter.
- Olivet had four drives in the second half. One ended on a punt, one on downs and two on interceptions.
- Olivet was held to 156 yards of total offense.
- Freshman Samuel Kunnuji led the ground game with 10 carries for 48 yards. He also hauled in three passes for 29 yards.
- Sophomore Evan Ormsby completed 13-of-31 passes for 87 yards.
- Senior Jalen Broussard caught four passes for 34 yards.
- The defense recorded 13 tackles for loss, with five quarterback sacks.
- Senior Isaiah Moon finished with 11 tackles.
- Senior Logan Fee had 10 tackles.
- Hope totaled 394 yards of offense.
- Chase Brown threw for 232 yards on 13-of-23 passing.
- TJ Mckenzie was his favorite receiver with seven catches for 146 yards.
- Romano had 17 rushes for 84 yards.
- Trevor Hansen and Cole Luhmann each registered seven tackles.
- Olivet hosts Alma College next Saturday, October 29, at 1 p.m.
