Barnett and Heart-Wilkins named MIAA Athletes of the Week for football
FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College sophomore Cortaveon Barnett and senior Ta’Mar Heart-Wilkins have been named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athletes of the Week for their performances in the Comets’ 49-7 victory over Kalamazoo College. Barnett is the Offensive Athlete of the Week and Heart-Wilkins is the Defensive Athlete of the Week.
FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College sophomore Cortaveon Barnett and senior Ta'Mar Heart-Wilkins have been named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athletes of the Week for their performances in the Comets' 49-7 victory over Kalamazoo College. Barnett is the Offensive Athlete of the Week and Heart-Wilkins is the Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Barnett finished the game with 17 carries for 208 yards and three touchdowns. His touchdown runs covered 72, 28 and 43 yards. All three were in the first 10 minutes of the game, with the 72-yard jaunt being the first play from scrimmage. In addition, 12 of the rushes were in the first half for 195 yards. Barnett is being honored for the second time this season.
Heart-Wilkins recorded five total tackles, including 4.5 for minus 21 yards. Three of the tackles for loss were quarterback sacks for negative 19 yards, with one also being a forced fumble. The Comet defense held the Hornets to 137 yards of total offense. Ninety of the yards came on Kalamazoo's scoring drive in the fourth quarter.
Olivet (5-3, 2-3 MIAA) is back in action Saturday when it travels to play Adrian College. Kick-off at Docking Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
