Monroe receives Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year award
Olivet College senior Trenton Monroe has received the 2018 Morley Fraser Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year award from the State of Michigan Chapter of the National Football Foundation (NFF). The award is presented for excellence in athletics, academics and civic leadership.
DEARBORN, Mich. – Olivet College senior Trenton Monroe has received the 2018 Morley Fraser Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year award from the State of Michigan Chapter of the National Football Foundation (NFF). The award is presented for excellence in athletics, academics and civic leadership.
Head football coach Dan Musielewicz accepted the award on behalf of Monroe who is currently on a service learning trip in South Africa. The honor was given at the chapter awards banquet Dec. 20 in Dearborn. The event was held in conjunction with the Detroit Free Press' All-State banquet at the Dearborn Inn.
An actuarial science major, Monroe played in all 10 games for the Comets in 2018. After playing the first game at the tight end position, he played the next three games at right tackle before playing the final six games at left guard. Monroe blocked for an offense which averaged 423.6 yards per game, including 200.0 passing yards.
Monroe also received the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Pete Schmidt Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He was also named All-MIAA First Team and D3football.com All-North Region Second Team, and a Google Cloud Academic All-District IV selection.
Academically, Monroe has been named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll twice and Dean's List every semester at Olivet. He has participated in various community service projects, including volunteering at an elementary school in Costa Rica to build a playground and organize the school.
Monroe serves as chief expansion and marketing officer for Gamma Iota Sigma, president of Mathletes and brother of Adelphic Alpha Pi literary society. He is also a member of Sigma Zeta (mathematics and science honor society), Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Global Citizen's honors program.
