Football team loses 28-6 at Trine in season-finale

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College football team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champion Trine (Ind.) University, 28-6, in its season-finale at Zollner Athletic Stadium in Angola, Indiana.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Thunder led 17-0 at halftime behind a pair of rushing touchdowns and a 23-yard field goal.
- The Comets' best chance to score came on its second possession when they drove into the red zone before a fumble stalled the drive.
- Trine stretched its lead to 20-0 on a 25-yard field goal with four minutes left in the third quarter.
- The Thunder scored the final touchdown and subsequent two-point conversion to make the score 28-0.
- Olivet broke up the shutout when junior quarterback Lane Porter threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to junior Jacob Jodway on the last play of the game.

- Olivet recorded 296 yards of offense in the game.
- Sophomore Jamaul Martin led the ground game with 11 carries for 71 yards.
- Porter completed 26-of-38 passes for 234 yards.
- Senior Kornelius Saxton was the leading receiver with 13 catches for 130 yards.

- Defensively, senior Walter Love III led all players with 11 total tackles.

- Quarterback Evan Wyse accounted for 189 yards, as he threw for 89 yards on 7-of-13 passing and had 17 rushes for 100 yards.
- Lamar Carswell registered 23 carries for 183 yards.
- Jeffery Barnett topped the receiving corps with two catches for 39 yards.
- Jonathon Fierro led the defense with tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and interception.
- Simeon Washington notched three tackles for loss, including a pair of quarterback sacks.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Olivet finishes the 2017 season with a 5-5 overall record, including 3-3 MIAA mark. The Comets now have had five straight seasons with a .500 or above winning percentage.
- Saxton became the first player in school history to top 1,000 receiving yards in a season, as he ends the year with 1,049 yards. His 13 catches today are the third-most in school history for a game.
- Jodway finishes the season with 892 receiving yards to only rank behind Saxton's 1,049 yards in the single-season ledger.
- Porter's final 27-yard pass breaks the single-season record for passing yards. He ends the season with 2,546 yards to pass Braden Black who had 2,527 yards in 2013.
