FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College freshman John Adams III has been chosen the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Defensive Player of the Week for football.
Adams III played a large role in helping the Comets beat Aurora (Ill.) University, 37-21, Sept. 16 at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. On the Spartans' first possession, he intercepted a Geron Rogers' pass and returned the ball 50 yards for a touchdown. Later in the game after Aurora had cut its deficit down to two points, Adams III returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. The return was the second-longest in school history. For the game, he tallied four solo tackles, including two for negative five yards.
"John has been a big time player maker for us this year on defense and now special teams," said Olivet head football coach Dan Musielewicz. "His kickoff return for a touchdown against Aurora was a crucial turning point for momentum. John is a fast and explosive player who uses that to his advantage. His work ethic and attention to detail is what sets him apart."
Adams III and the Comets are off this week and return to the field Saturday, Sept. 30, when they host Hope College at 2 p.m.
