Anderson earns D3football.com All-America honors
Olivet College senior punter Ryan Anderson has added another postseason honor to his list. Tonight, he was named to the 2016 D3football.com All-America Second Team.
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Olivet College senior punter Ryan Anderson has added another postseason honor to his list. Tonight, he was named to the 2016 D3football.com All-America Second Team.
A two-time American Football Coaches Association All-America selection, Anderson finished the 2016 season with an NCAA Division III single-season record 46.2 punting average. He punted 47 times, and had 18 punts go for more than 50 yards, with the longest traveling 65 yards. As well, 15 punts landed inside the opponent's 20, nine were touchbacks and six were fair caught by the punt returner. Anderson tied for the second-most punts in a game when he tallied nine punts against Albion College.
Other duties on the team for Anderson included being a wide receiver on offense, hauling in 12 receptions for 129 yards, and being the holder on PAT kick attempts on special teams. He is also a two-time first-team D3football.com All-North Region and All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) honoree.
Anderson is the third player in school history to be named to the D3football.com All-America teams. The other two are Michael Terranova (third team safety in 2007) and Ryan Patten (honorable mention punter in 2007 and 2008).
The Comets ended the 2016 season with a 9-2 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Division III Playoffs for the second time in school history, with the other time being 2007. Olivet won the outright MIAA title with a perfect 6-0 record.
