INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Olivet College football team will travel to play John Carroll (Ohio) University in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Division III Football Championship Saturday, Nov. 19. Kickoff at Don Shula Stadium in University Heights, Ohio, is noon ET.
The Comets finished the regular season with a 9-1 overall record and won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championship with a perfect 6-0 record to clinch the automatic bid. After losing its season-opener to St. John Fisher (N.Y.) College, Olivet has won nine straight games. The nine wins equal last year's team for the most wins in school history for a season.
John Carroll had a 9-1 overall record and claimed the Ohio Athletic Association's (OAC) automatic bid with a 9-0 record. The Blue Streaks beat defending national champion University of Mount Union (Ohio), 31-28, yesterday to secure its first OAC title since 1994. In that game, JCU snapped the Purple Raiders' 112-game regular season winning streak.
The Comets are making their second-ever trip to the national championships, with 2007 being the other time. That year, Olivet traveled to Pella, Iowa, to play Central (Iowa) College in the first round. The Dutch defeated the Comets, 38-17.
