FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College junior Javon Walker has been picked the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Defensive Player of the Week for football.
Walker recorded nine total tackles in leading the Comets to a 44-37 win over Adrian College Nov. 5 at Docking Stadium in Adrian. Of his nine tackles, nine were solo stops and another was a tackle for minus 17 yards. Walker also returned an interception 69 yards for Olivet's first touchdown. In the fourth quarter, he forced and recovered the ball on a muffed punt return by the Bulldogs.
The win guaranteed a share of the 2016 MIAA championship. A win over Trine (Ind.) University this Saturday in their regular-season finale would give the Comets an outright conference title for the first time in school history since 1974. Olivet has already locked-up the league's automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division III National Championships.
Saturday's game against Trine will be played at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet and start at 1 p.m.
