Sleight receives Morley Fraser Scholar-Athlete Award
Olivet College senior Travis Sleight (Battle Creek/Lakeview) received the Morley Fraser Scholar-Athlete Award from the Michigan Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame.
Olivet College senior Travis Sleight (Battle Creek/Lakeview) received the Morley Fraser Scholar-Athlete Award from the Michigan Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame. He was presented the award at the Detroit Free Press All-State Dream Team Football Awards Banquet Dec. 15, 2005, at Ford Field.
Sleight, who carries a 3.84 grade point average in health, physical education, recreation and sport, was also the recipient of the 2005 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Pete Schmidt Scholar-Athlete Award. In addition, he is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America and three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District IV selection.
Sleight, a 2004 and 2005 first-team All-MIAA pick, finished the 2005 season with 184 rushes for 1,108 yards and eight touchdowns. He also caught 14 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns. He ended his four-year career as Olivet's all-time leader in touchdowns scored in a game (7), season (20) and career (51). Sleight's career statistics include 2,814 rushing yards, 820 receiving yards, 50 punt return yards and 656 kickoff returns yards for 4,340 total all-purpose yards.
