Bio

Steve Wendry is in his seventh year as an assistant baseball coach at Olivet College in 2023.

Before joing the Olivet staff, Wendry spent the two years as an assistant at Lansing Community College (LCC). During the 2016 season, LCC enjoyed its best season in school history, posting a 30-20 overall record and reaching the NJCAA Region XII Tournament in Battle Creek. Wendry had previously served for five years as an assistant baseball coach at LCC from 2009-2013 before returning for the 2014-15 season.

He has been involved with the Lansing City Baseball leagues since 1987 serving as a player/coach for several different teams. Wendry has spent several years as a player/coach for Guerrero’s Baseball Club and the Steakhouse Philly’s Baseball Club in the Men’s 30 and 40 Leagues.  For the past several years, he has also been a member of the Akron Blue’s Baseball club from Akron Ohio which travels every fall to compete in the senior division of the Roy Hobbs World Series in Ft. Myers, Florida.

Wendry is from Jonesville, Michigan, where he graduated high school in 1970. He received varsity letters in baseball all four years, as well as multiple varsity letters in football, basketball and track. After graduation, Wendry attended Kellogg Community College and the Michigan State Police Academy where he graduated and was assigned to Houghton Lake, Michigan as a state trooper. He worked as a Michigan State Police Trooper for 25 years retiring in 2000 as a Detective Lieutenant.

Wendry retired from a second career with the Michigan Department of Corrections Internal Affairs Division and now works part time as a police officer for the Napoleon Township Police Department in Jackson County. He currently resides in Clark Lake.
