RICHMOND, Ind. – The University of Olivet baseball team opened its 2025 season by losing both games of non-conference doubleheader against Earlham (Ind.) College, 19-7 and 7-3, this afternoon at Randal R. Sadler Stadium.
THE BASICS
- Final Scores: Earlham 19, Olivet 7 (8); Earlham 7, Olivet 3

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Quakers had only one hit but took advantage of five walks and two errors to score six runs in the second inning. Earlham added two more runs in the third inning. The Comets scored two runs in the fourth inning on an RBI-double by sophomore Austin Alflen and RBI-single by sophomore Jack Friesen. The Quakers got those two runs back and one more in the bottom half of the fourth to make the score 11-2.
- Junior Tyler Duncan roped a double over the center fielder's head to score two runs in the fifth inning. Later in the inning, he came around to score. Earlham made the score 13-5 with a home run to lead off the seventh inning. Olivet pushed across two runs in the eighth inning on Friesen's RBI-double and junior Owen Smith's RBI-groundout. The Quakers blasted two three-run home runs in the home half of the eighth to cap their scoring and post the run-rule victory.
- For the game, the Comets totaled eight hits. Alflen was 3-for-4 with a double and two singles. Friesen had two hits and drove in two runs. Junior Charlie Quilliam suffered the pitching loss.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Earlham strung together three hits – a triple and two singles – to score a pair of runs in the third inning. The Quakers extended their lead to 5-0 with a three-run homer in the fourth inning. Junior Mikey Kuzara drove in junior Braden Abbott for the Comets' first run in the fifth inning.
- Olivet scored another run in the sixth inning when Smith hit an RBI-single to score senior Mason Cook. The Quakers used a two-out uprising to score two runs in their part of the sixth frame and make the score 7-2.
- In the eighth inning, Alflen drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Friesen with the Comets' third run and re-load the bases. After a pitching change, a groundout got Earlham out of the jam.
- For the game, Olivet out-hit the Quakers, 10-9. Friesen, Kuzara and freshman Hogan McCleary each had two hits. Abbott reached base safely three times, with one hit and two walks. Freshman Jacob Wadsworth was the losing pitcher after yielding five runs over four and two-thirds innings. He struck out five and walked two batters. Sophomore Logan Lewis recorded six strikeouts over the final three and one-third innings.
